Comparison of manual dexterity of people with Alzheimer’s disease and cognitively healthy older adults: The impact of cognition

Background Alzheimer’s disease (AD) not only effects the cognitive level, but also leads to significant decline in motor skill. Manual dexterity emerges with interaction of and processes is seen as an important predictor functional independence. The aim this study was compare manual people AD healthy older adults investigate effect level on dexterity. Method Nine Hole Peg Test (NHPT) used for assessment. Cognitive function were assessed Montreal Assessment (MoCA). Statistical analysis performed by Mann Whitney U regression SPSS 22.0 package program. Result Twenty nine (78.04±6.49, 48.27% female) ten cognitively adult (74.8±7.22, 30% included study. NHPT results dominant hand 31.87±7.33 sec. 21.66±2.85 sec.; MoCA scores 13.79±5.76 24.5±2.32, respectively, adults. There difference between groups (p<.001). Significant correlation found (p<.001, r = .648). It that significantly predicted (β .648, R2 .42, F [1,27] 19.58, p<.001). Conclusion shows a decrease compared In our study, it shown occurs cognition at rate 42%. Deteriorating decreased likely accelerate patients' withdrawal from activities daily living. Also, rehabilitation programs include may slow down process participation restriction AD.
